Though the name Omega did not emerge unitl 1894 the companies history began in 1848, when its founder Louis Brandt opened a workshop and began hand assembling pocket relojes put together from parts made in the local La Chaux-de-Fonds. The company began producing its own parts following Louis Brandt’s death in 1879, at which time his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar took over the busíness.The OMEGA name was born when it was used to name one of the Brandt brother’s reloj movement calibers. The Brandt brothers were the first Suizo reloj makers to use the divided assembly line, which then allowed quality relojes to be mass-produced.
